GBA and the Pittsburgh 2030 District are proud to partner with AIA Pittsburgh (a Pittsburgh 2030 District Community Partner) on delivering the AIA+2030 Professional Series. Starting with its first session at Build Pittsburgh 2013 (April 18), this 10-session education series covers key design and operational strategies to reach the carbon reduction goals of The 2030 Challenge. The series consists of ten, 4-hour sessions, each of which is worth 4 AIA LU/HSW credits. We encourage all 2030 partners and affiliates to attend these events. These are great opportunities to learn more about sustainable building design from a panel of experts, see how building projects in the region continue to innovate, and network with design and building professionals.
GBA Members can register for the complete series of ten, 4-hour sessions for $800. For non-members, the series cost is $1,000. Series purchases are also eligible for a $75 Build Pittsburgh Cost. See registration form for details and to sign up to attend.

Gardeners the world over have a renewed interest in vertical gardening. Although the concept is thousands of years old, an increase in urban living has created the need for new and efficient ways to grow vertically. Living walls, tuteurs, pergolas, and wall pockets can be utilized to maximize space. Come learn what’s up in the world of vertical gardening.
The Landmarks Preservation Resource Center, in a partnership with the Allegheny County office of the Penn State Extension will offer a comprehensive workshop/lecture on Vertical Gardening, by Karel Ulizio a master gardener. This is the second of a four-part workshop series.
This lecture is free and open to the public.

About the presenter: Karel Ulizio is a 1976 University of Pittsburgh Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude graduate in political science and economics, and a 1980 graduate of Temple Law School. She recently graduated as a Penn State Master Gardener in the class of 2012, and has been involved with all things botanical for decades. She worked in plant stores in high school, adorned every dorm room and apartment with scores of house plants, until she finally started digging in the earth itself and began creating her own gardens once home ownership was a reality. She currently spends her volunteer time at the demonstration garden in North Park, and is the Tour Coordinator for the Allegheny County Penn State Extension office.

Join the Pittsburgh chapters of AIA and AIGA for PechaKucha Night Pittsburgh 20×20 Vol. 15!
PechaKucha Night, devised in Tokyo as an event for young people to meet, network, and show their work, has turned into a worldwide celebration with events taking place all over the world, including right here in Pittsburgh! Drawing from its name, the Japanese term for “chit-chat”, PechaKucha relies on a presentation format based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It is a dynamic presentation style where presenters have a total of six minuted and 40 seconds to pair words with images.
Remember, PechaKucha Night is open to everyone. You do not need to be an AIA or AIGA member to participate or attend. All are welcomed and encouraged to present and attend!
